Peter Strange was a larger than life (and his size!!) character when our son, Jon Grave joined Newcastle Cathedral Choir about 1988. Michael subsequently sang with the Choir too and was able to witness Peter's dedication to the welfare of all in it. He especially ensured the boys enjoyed excellent choir holidays at various cathedrals, being one of the minibus drivers. His love for Micky Mouse was legendary and Christmas Presents from the choristers usually had a Micky Mouse theme. Peter ministered to the arts in Newcastle and was an omni presence at the theatre or concert hall. His eulogy for the late Jean Robinson (another great supporter of the arts) in front of 900 people in the Cathedral is still a classic on how to celebrate someone's life. Not one to take fools lightly, he was one of those people who make one's life and experience fun and joyful. So Peter thank you for all you did, your care, your friendship, and your joy. Please ensure that the arts in heaven flourish and the angels are driven off on some great holidays. RIP. Michael (former Lay-clerk), Jean and Jon Grave (former choister).

Very sad to hear of Peter’s passing. As a chorister in the cathedral choir over 30 years ago, he always looked after us with great care. I’ll never forget him asking me in Liverpool cathedral what pop music I was listening to on my walkman. With shock I responded ‘it’s a Beethoven piano sonata’ (as only an 8 year old cathedral chorister can. He’ll be sorely missed.
